KATHMANDU, OCT 02 - Bowing down to pressure from the party rank and file, the CPN-UML on Wednesday canceled actor Bhuwan KC's candidacy to contest CA polls from Kathmandu-1 constituency.
UML has been making preparations to field Bidhya Neupane from Kathmandu-1 constituency in place of actor Bhuwan KC after pressure mounted to withdraw KC's candidacy.
Earlier in the day, UML regional committee drew the attention of party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal towards the controversial candidacy of KC and exerted pressure to reconsider the decision to field KC as a candidate under the First-Past-the-Post electoral system.
The Standing Committee of CPN-UML had on Tuesday decided to field actor KC from Kathmandu-1.
The disgruntled leaders and cadres of Kathmandu-1 regional committee had threatened to quit the party if KC's nomination as party candidate was not withdrawn.
Actor KC had joined UML on 2067 B.S.
